Safe Haven

Seniors Services Society

Provides an online directory of various types of seniors housing in the Lower Mainland. Has housing information, referrals, and an outreach program. Also has a temporary housing program (cost geared towards income) for seniors who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Find emergency shelter or a safe place to stay.

Start by calling 211 if you are looking for a shelter bed. They keep a list of available beds that is updated twice a day. Shelter Safe also has a list of transition/safe houses if you are a woman experiencing abuse.

All Nations Youth Safe House (ANYSH)

Youth (16-18 years) shelter with 1 to 30-day emergency stay. Goal oriented program. Plans reviewed weekly to determine a need for extension (up to 30 days). Residents have a worker who assists in developing an individualized plan of daily goals to secure housing. Daily meals, access to a computer and phone, & housing and job search forms. A low risk facility.

Arbour House 2nd Stage Transition House (YWCA)

Transition housing for women and children fleeing abuse from their intimate partner. Eight fully-furnished suites with a 9 month stay. On site support from staff four days per week for emotional support, advocacy, court accompaniments, housing search etc.

    A first-stage transition house staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Staff provides emotional support, referrals, and resource information, advocacy, court and other accompaniments, parenting support, harm reduction etc.

  • Koomseh 2nd Stage Housing

    Koomseh provides supportive housing to 11 women and their children who have been impacted by abuse suffered in intimate relationships.

  • Maxxine Wright Place

    The Maxxine Wright Place serves women who are pregnant and/or have a newborn or are early parenting and need a safe place to stay. Women can access the shelter at any point during their pregnancy, and potentially stay until their baby is 6 months old. Have child care and health clinic for prenatal health.   • Shimai Transition House

Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver

Offers a range of supports for women, especially those involved in the criminal justice system. Have a range of housing  supports including two shelters in Surrey, Cynthia's Place and Sheena's Place.

Large social service organization that has 51 housing sites across the Lower Mainland. This includes the Gateway, Guildford and Parkway shelters but also other transitional housing and permanent supportive housing.     40 bed shelter for those 19+ years old. Supervised by staff during rest times, it offers separate ladies and men’s sleeping areas with washrooms. Also has an integrated housing program for people staying at the  shelter. The program can help with ID replacement, housing searches,  assistance applications, advocacy, referrals to other agencies  and other things.

  • Guildford Shelter

The shelter provides 31 separate shelter rooms. Each has a sink and a bed, and access to single occupancy washrooms and showers. Three meals per day are provided and everyone has access to a range of supports. Pets are accepted. Wheelchair accessible. Call between 7 am and 3 pm to be added to waitlist.

The Welcome Hub by Surrey Urban Mission

Integrated community drop-in facility and 15-bed permanent shelter. Public washrooms and respite areas available 8 am to 11 pm daily. Shelter is for adults ages 19 and over. Wheelchair accessible, storage available. One pet is allowed in the shelter at a time. Shelter guests have access to meal, showers, harm reduction supplies, and overdose prevention site. Meals are served at 8 am to 9:30 am and 12 noon to 1:30 pm daily and also welcome the community. Case work services available 8 am to 4 pm daily. Serves as intake for four shelters (Surrey Welcome Hub, SUMS Place, The Cove, and The Olive Branch). Intakes are at 10 am and 10 pm daily based on availability of beds.

Homeless Prevention Program

Supporting individuals to maintain housing through advocacy and facilitated access to resources. Sources Rent Bank also offers micro-loans for rental and utility arrears, damage deposits and first month’s rent. Also assisting homeless individuals to find safe and affordable housing. Offers ongoing support (re. income supports, benefits, tenancy, other supports) to assist them to remain housed. Services include Housing First for chronically and episodically homeless individuals.

Rental Assistance Program

We may offer a one-time loan to low-income individuals and families who are at risk of homelessness for home eviction due to lack of, or shortage of, a monthly rent payment, utility arrears, damage deposit or other circumstance, as long as the loan completely alleviates the crisis. Other eligibility criteria apply including having a steady source of income to repay the loan.

Surrey Urban Mission

Breakfast and lunches for the public, and a nightly meal for shelter guests. Main shelter is first come first serve. Once you have secured a bed, it will be kept for you until you no longer return. Shelter support workers are on site 7 days a week to help guests transition into housing, gain ID, and access medical services. Also have the Cove and Olive Branch shelters that include an overdose prevention site, laundry, showers and other services.

Monday to Friday mobile outreach from 6:30am-2pm in the City Centre area. Outreach support is also offered Monday to Friday from 11am to 2pm on a walk-in basis at the City Centre Library. Youth Supported Independent Living

The Welcome Hub

This integrated community drop-in and shelter facility operated by Surrey Urban Mission Society (SUMS) provides meal services, 16 co-ed shelter beds, washrooms, laundry, respite space, outreach services, and mats during Extreme Weather Response. Access to the Hub, and workers, is available until 11 pm. Community Meals are served (anybody from the community is welcome to come for a meal): breakfast is at 8:00 am while lunch is at 12:00 pm (noon).
