Adoption
Many Indigenous children were forcibly removed from their families and placed into foster homes or adopted by non-indigenous families. This practice was particularly prevalent in the 1960s and became known as “The Sixties Scoop”.
Researching family members who were adopted or placed in government care can be challenging. The Forget-Me-Not Family Society provides links to all the provincial adoption registry pages. The Society provides information on adoption reunion support networks as well.
