Researching Your England Ancestors From Home

Thursday, September 28 2023, 10–11am
Cloverdale Branch

From about 2000 on,there has been an explosion of records found on genealogy sites such as FamilySearch, Ancestry, FindMyPast, and other more narrowly-focused websites such as Find-a-grave, Deceased Online, and FreeBMD.

Our presenter will provide a brief background on this expansion, while concentrating on local resource centres and their free access, using some lesser-known (but valuable!) websites, as well as working with England contacts who are willing to so small-scale research on your behalf, for free.

Our presenter, Rob Whitlock, holds a Professional Learning Certificate (PLCGS) from the National Institute of Genealogical Studes (Cdn) with a focus on English records and methodology.  Rob has attended week-long sessions offered by the British Institute os the International Society for British Genealogical and Family History, in Salt Lake City.  Rob was involved with the BC Genealogical Society from 2007 to 2019 during which he served as President for two years.  Over the past 15 years Rob has given many presentations on English records and beginners' courses, including a full-day course at Ridge Meadows College (Maple Ridge) and a number of sessions for the Surrey  Family History Centre, the Abbotsford Genealogical Society, and the Abbotsford Family History Centre.
