National Day for Truth & Reconciliation

On July 7, 2021 the Federal Government declared September 30 as a new statutory holiday for federal employees called National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. On this day, all residents of Canada are invited to reflect on our history, especially the dark legacy of residential schools, and think of what we can do better moving forward.

About Orange Shirt Day

September 30, also known as Orange Shirt Day, honours the resilience and bravery of Indian residential school survivors and their families, and remembers those who didn't make it home. It is also an opportunity for Indigenous governments, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation.

Orange Shirt day was inspired by the story of Phyllis (Jack) Webstad. Learn more at www.orangeshirtday.org/ or, check out Phyllis’ books.
