breathes new life into the somewhat saturated vampire fiction genre

A Discovery of Witches (2011), the 1st book in Deborah Harkness’s All Souls Trilogy, introduces us to Diana Bishop, a reluctantly gifted witch who would rather research alchemy than apply her otherworldly talent, and Matthew Clairmont, a reclusive vampire who studies the origin of creature species. Their lives are forever changed and inextricably intertwined in a chance encounter in the famed Bodleian Library at Oxford University. From that moment on, otherworldly creatures begin chasing Diana for her latent magic powers and the couple for their taboo cross-species love for one another. I would highly recommend this book’s blend of historical fiction and fantasy: the author breathes new life into the somewhat saturated vampire fiction genre (Submitted by Andrea)
