This is Harry Potter for grown ups with tech start-ups, hippies, environmental disasters, failed parental relationships and a truly amazing friendship.

Patricia is the odd one at her elementary school. She is not understood by her parents and her sister seems to be the perfect one. Laurence is bullied at his school for his nerdiness. He builds a time machine that only goes forward 2 seconds. They find each other in junior high and sort of become allies until Patricia learns how to talk to birds and her magic scares him off. They never expected to see each other again but 10 years later find each other as adults, living in San Francisco as the world falls apart around them. Patricia is a graduate of magic school, a full blown witch, and Laurence is a tech and engineering mastermind. This is Harry Potter for grown ups with tech start-ups, hippies, environmental disasters, failed parental relationships and a truly amazing friendship. When I finished it, I clutched it to my heart and wished I could read it again for the first time (Submitted by Sharleen).
