We are excited to announce a series of upcoming events for teens. Funded by a generous grant from Coast Capital Savings, we have a chance for teens to unwind from exam stress with a therapy animal, pick up leadership skills or learn self-defense skills. This same grant allowed us to over yoga and mindfulness sessions earlier this year.
Friday, May 24th - Teen Therapy Dog Visit
Feel worn-out? Hang out with therapy dogs visiting from St. John’s Ambulance. Spending time with animals can decrease stress levels!
Friday, May 31st - Teen Leadership Inspiration Seminar
Join us for an interactive session with Teen Library Council members. They will discuss leadership skills gained from their projects with Surrey Libraries. Each TLC will show how these skills apply to real life. A Q & A session will follow. Light snacks provided
Wednesday, June 26th - Self-Defense Workshop for Teens
Join instructors from Valkyrie Western Martial Arts Assembly to learn how to deal with everyday dangers and harassment. Learn how to recognize and respond to threatening situations using your abilities. Learn how to take care of yourself after a confrontation.
There will be a chance to practice core techniques in drills and mini-scenarios. All fitness levels welcome. No experience necessary.
