Family History
Their Business is Your Business
Using Business Records and Occupations for Family History Research
What your ancestors did to earn a living can be found in many community records such as newspapers, licences, photographs, contracts, and military records. This presentation discusses what kinds of documents and records can be found and where to find them.
Ann Buchanan from the BC Genealogical Society, genealogist and retired insurance broker, draws on her experience as a business owner to point out new areas of discovery such as claims, licences, trade journals, fraternal records, street names, advertising and clothing. Carmen Merrells, Librarian with Surrey Libraries Family History Department, will share information and resources on where to find these types of records.
For this online program, we will be using Microsoft Teams. You will need a computer with a microphone (or headphones) and webcam; or your smartphone or iPad/tablet.
