Translation – Explanation and Caution

The electronic translation service on Surrey Libraries' website is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation may vary in some of the languages offered by Google. The goal of the basic translation is to capture the general intention of the original English material.

Surrey Libraries cannot guarantee the quality, accuracy, or completeness of any translated information.  Before you act on translated information, we encourage you to confirm any facts that are important to you and the decisions you make.

If you have a question about the material you read on the Surrey Libraries website, we encourage you to contact Surrey Libraries to discuss it.  You can also contact the City of Surrey at 604-591-4011 to receive interpretation support.

Borrow From Surrey Libraries

Remember to bring your card when you visit the library. It is your ticket to borrowing many items, using computers and accessing library databases. Find out how to get a library card.

How many items can I borrow?

Regular cardholders may borrow up to 50 items at any one time.
New cardholders may borrow up to 10 items at one time for the first 90 days of membership.

Magazines 3 weeks
DVDs & CDs 3 weeks
Items with requests 2 weeks
Superloans (Bestsellers) 1 week
Book Club Kits 6 weeks

Borrowing materials from Surrey Libraries is free. However, if your materials are returned late, fines will be applied your account. Read more about fines and fees.

How do I return my items?

Return materials to any branch of Surrey Libraries, no matter which branch you borrowed them from. Return chutes are available after the library closes (except at Guildford Library). Books should be deposited spine first.

You may also return materials from Surrey Libraries to other InterLINK public libraries in the Lower Mainland.

How do I place a hold?

Place a hold to reserve a library item that is not currently available, and you will be contacted when your item is available for pickup. When your hold arrives, bring the card you used to place the hold in order to pick up your hold items. Hold must be picked up within 7 days of arrival or a $1 charge will be applied to your account.

  • Choose to get notifications by email or phone.
  • Up to 30 active holds at a time.
  • Cancel your holds by calling your local library or from your online account.
  • Suspend your holds from your online account when you go on vacation. You will keep your spot on the waiting list, but we won't send the item to your branch for pickup until you activate your holds again.
  • There are no holds on Superloans.

How do I renew my items?

A maximum of 2 renewals is allowed on items not requested by others. There are no renewals on Superloans, DVDs, or Book Club Kits.

  • Renew online by logging in to your account. Under "My SL," click on "Checked Out."
  • Renew by phone by calling 604-502-6333 (unavailable 11:00pm Friday to 4:00am Saturday)
  • Or visit your local Surrey Library to renew your items in person!

How do I check my account by phone?

Check your own library record from home using a touch tone phone: Call 604-502-6333.
Telemessaging is available daily, except between 11:00pm Fridays to 4:00am Saturdays.

By phone you can:

  • Review list of materials out on loan
  • Renew items you have out on loan
  • Cancel titles on hold
  • Review any charges on your record
