Borrow From Surrey Libraries

Bring Your Library Card

Remember to bring your card when you visit the library. It is your ticket to borrowing many items, using computers and accessing library databases. Find out how to get a library card.

Borrowing

New borrowers may have up to 10 items out at any one time. Regular borrowers may have up to 50 items out at any one time.

The limit of items per category per library card is as follows:

  • Most library materials — 50
  • DVDs — 5
  • VHS and CD-ROMs — 10

Newspapers, references books and current issues of magazines must be used in the library.

Surrey Libraries doesn't have the book you are looking for? You may be able to borrow from other library systems.

Loan Periods

Here's how long you may keep your items:

Most books and CDs 3 weeks
Magazines 3 weeks
DVDs 3 weeks
High demand materials 2 weeks
Superloans (Bestsellers) 1 week

Borrowing is free if materials are returned by the due date. If your materials are returned late, fines will be applied your account. Fines can be paid in person at any library branch.

Your Holds

Place a hold to reserve a library item. You will be contacted when your item is available for pickup (you can be notified by email, phone, or mail). You must pickup or cancel your hold within 10 days, or a $1.00 charge will be applied to your account. Bring the card you used to place the hold in order to pick up your hold items.

Changed your mind? Cancel your hold by calling your local library, or from your online account

Going on vacation? You can suspend your holds from your online account. You will keep your spot on the waiting list, but we won't send the item to your branch for pickup until you activate your holds again.

Return Your Items

Return materials to any branch of Surrey Libraries, no matter which branch you borrowed them from. Return chutes are available after the library closes (except Guildford Library). Books should be deposited spine first.

You may also return materials from Surrey Libraries to other InterLINK public libraries in the Lower Mainland.
